Lo-fi, rain and ambient sounds for studying
Earmuff is a free place to study, read and focus. Pick one of 37 living scenes, from a rainy café window to a night train or a campfire under the stars, then layer real ambient sounds the way you like them. Everything runs in your browser, with no account and no ads.
How to use it
- Press Start listening. The café scene starts with light rain, café chatter and lo-fi music.
- Open Sounds to add or remove sounds and set each volume. Save mixes you like.
- Open Focus for a Pomodoro timer with breaks and a short task list.
- Leave the screen alone and the controls fade away, so only the scene and the clock stay.

Questions
Is Earmuff free?
Yes. Every scene, sound and the focus timer are free, with no account and no ads.
Which sound is best for studying?
Steady sounds work best for most people: light rain, brown noise, a café murmur or a fireplace. A popular mix is lo-fi music around 60 percent, rain around 45 percent and café chatter around 25 percent. If you can pick out single voices or sounds, turn it down.
Can I mix sounds together?
Yes. Open Sounds, tap as many as you like and give each its own volume. Save the mixes you like to use them again.
Does it work offline and on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, and once a sound has played it keeps working offline. You can add it to your home screen like an app.
Is there a Pomodoro timer?
Yes. The focus timer runs 25, 50 or 90 minute sessions with breaks in between, or your own lengths, with a soft chime and a small task list.
Where do the sounds come from?
They are real field recordings released under CC0 and the Pixabay Content License, from the Moodist and Blanket projects. Brown, pink and white noise and the music are generated live in your browser.
